David Umahi regarding the reported demolition of estates owned by Nigerians residing abroad. A formal petition has been lodged with the Committee on Works and Housing, led by Honorable Akin Alabi, addressing the legislative body’s concerns and sparking further scrutiny into the issue.

The allegations revolve around the demolition of estates, allegedly owned by Nigerians abroad, and the potential legal and ethical implications of such actions by the current Minister of Works and Housing, Engr. Umahi. The petition underscores the importance of safeguarding investments by Nigerians in diaspora and upholding ethical leadership to promote accountability within the government.

The petition, led by aggrieved Nigerians in diaspora along with Engr. Stella Okengwu and three other co-petitioners, accuses Engr. Umahi of power abuse, undermining efforts to encourage diaspora investments in Nigeria. Dated October 14th, the document reveals that these Nigerians had invested substantially in a land parcel under the Win Homes investment scheme, with over 70% of the subscribers being diaspora Nigerians.

To further bolster their case, the petitioners highlighted that due diligence had been meticulously conducted, with all necessary documents secured from the Lagos State Government, including a valid Certificate of Occupancy specifically for the Okun Ajah community. This indicates a well-founded legal basis for their ownership and investments in the property, asserting their rights amidst the controversy.

Despite their adherence to legal protocols, Winhomes faced unexpected disruptions when military personnel, allegedly deployed by Governor Wike, halted their operations without prior notice. The forceful intervention has sparked concerns about property rights, due process, and the protection of legitimate developers in the area, amplifying the need for a thorough legislative investigation into the matter.
