EL-ZION NEWS

Edu Gaspar, the former sporting director of Arsenal, has embarked on a new journey by joining Nottingham Forest as their Global Head of Football — a newly created executive role designed to support the club’s long-term football development and success.

In an official announcement, Nottingham Forest stated that the 47-year-old Brazilian will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club’s football operations, including recruitment, squad structure, player development, and performance planning.

“This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning,” Edu said. “I’m honoured by the trust placed in me and look forward to building a competitive and sustainable global football model aligned with our president’s ambition.”

Edu previously played for Arsenal between 2001 and 2005, winning two Premier League titles. He returned to the club in 2019 as technical director and was promoted to sporting director in 2022. He stepped down from that role in November 2024.

During his tenure, Edu was instrumental in Arsenal’s recent revival. He played a significant role in bringing in Mikel Arteta as head coach, a move that led to an FA Cup win in Arteta’s first season. While major silverware has since been elusive, Edu is credited with laying the groundwork for Arsenal’s rise as a strong Premier League contender.

His new role at Forest fits within the larger ambitions of club owner Evangelos Marinakis, who also owns Greek club Olympiakos and Portuguese side Rio Ave. There have also been reports linking Marinakis with a potential acquisition of Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, signaling an expansion of his multi-club model.

In addition to his work at Arsenal, Edu’s executive experience includes serving as director of football at Corinthians and as general coordinator of the Brazil national team from 2016 to 2019.
