MAN UNITED CANCEL SECRET AMAZON DOCUMENTARY PLANS FOLLOWING RUBEN AMORIM DECISION

EL-ZION NEWS

Manchester United have reportedly backed out of discussions with Amazon regarding an all-access documentary series after head coach Ruben Amorim declined to approve the project.

The club’s ongoing financial struggles have been widely noted, stemming from years of poor financial decisions and excessive spending under the Glazer family’s ownership.

United have openly been seeking ways to generate revenue, including a lucrative post-season tour of Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, estimated to bring in at least £8 million. With debts now surpassing £700 million and no European competition next season, the club’s financial situation appears increasingly concerning.

Since his arrival in February of the previous year, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has led a sweeping cost-reduction campaign. This has included job cuts across departments, ending Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassador role, and removing perks for employees during cup finals, among other measures.

In the final stretch of last season, the club reportedly entered into discussions about filming a behind-the-scenes documentary with Amazon, which would have joined the ranks of the platform’s high-profile ‘All or Nothing’ series. Clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur have previously been featured, but a United version was expected to be the most significant installment yet. Reports claim Amazon was willing to invest over £10 million to secure the project.

“Manchester United have withdrawn from secret talks over a record-breaking Amazon Prime access-all-areas documentary next season after concluding it could distract from the progress of the first team,” a source familiar with the matter said.

“Despite United’s most senior executives being across the discussions, the plug was pulled earlier this summer. It was to a significant extent because head coach Ruben Amorim made clear he was not comfortable with the potential intrusion on the first team — while aspects of the commercial agreement and the time pressure of the upcoming season were factors, too.”

The proposal was presented to Amorim, who shared his concerns, prompting a unanimous decision to abandon the idea.

According to reports, CEO Omar Berrada supported the documentary plan. However, Amorim’s stance ultimately held more weight, underscoring the club’s strong backing of the Portuguese coach, even after a difficult start to his tenure at Old Trafford. Amorim managed only seven wins from 27 Premier League matches after replacing Erik ten Hag in November.

He also suffered a defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham and led United to a disappointing 15th-place league finish.

Despite the rough start, United are keen to support the 40-year-old in the transfer market. They have already moved in that direction with the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and recently confirmed the arrival of Diego Leon.
