Tinubu has arrived in Ethiopia to attend the AU Summit and is expected to return to Abuja on Monday.

President Bola Tinubu arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Thursday night to attend the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government. He was welcomed at the airport by the Ethiopian Deputy Chief of Protocol, Eshetu Legesse, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the charge d’affaires of the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia, Ambassador Nasir Aminu. Ambassador Tuggar later provided President Tinubu with a briefing on the summit and discussed some diplomatic achievements for the country, a meeting that lasted until approximately 2 a.m. on Friday.

During the recent election, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye was successfully re-elected as the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, adding to the wins achieved by Nigeria. Additionally, Nigeria secured its position on the African Union Peace and Security Council, showcasing the country's enduring dedication to promoting peace and security in the region, as highlighted by Tuggar.

Attending the briefing were Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, and Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff. The focus of this year's AU summit is on reparatory justice and racial healing, under the theme 'Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations'. President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Summit-level meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, where the discussions will center on current security challenges in Africa, notably the escalating conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Furthermore, the President is scheduled to take part in sessions focusing on health financing, the establishment of an Africa Credit Rating Agency, and discussions on climate change. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, announced in a statement on Friday that President Tinubu is expected to be back in Abuja on Monday, February 17th.
