TINUBU VISITS BENUE, PREPARES TO TOUR CONFLICT-HIT YELWATA

EL-ZION NEWS

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, as part of a high-level mission aimed at addressing the recent escalation of violent attacks in the region.

He landed at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi around 12:58 pm on Wednesday.

This visit follows another deadly assault that claimed multiple lives and caused widespread destruction in several communities.

According to Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President’s trip emphasizes his determination to pursue a lasting resolution to the recurring crisis that has left many families in mourning and properties in ruins.

Tinubu is scheduled to hold direct engagements with major stakeholders in the state. These include traditional rulers, religious and political figures, community leaders, and youth organizations, in a town hall-style dialogue intended to encourage peace and reconciliation.

Ahead of the visit, a delegation of senior government officials was sent to Benue to prepare the ground. The delegation included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, senior intelligence chiefs, the National Security Adviser, and the leaders of the Senate and House Committees on Defence. The team has been consulting with local leaders and security personnel to gain a clearer understanding of the crisis.

The President’s visit also signifies a deliberate prioritization of national security concerns. He postponed a scheduled trip to Kaduna State—originally planned for Thursday—to commission development projects. That visit will now take place after his engagements in Benue.

Tinubu had earlier denounced the surge in killings in the state, urging all sides to reject violence and instead pursue peace, harmony, and mutual respect.

He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families affected and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring peace in all regions experiencing unrest.
